Neko Rigs

Neko Rigs

The Neko rig is a soft plastic worm or stick bait that uses a mushroom head or 'nail' weight pushed into one end. A rubber O-ring is slipped onto the worm (usually using a small tool designed for this) with the hook slipped under the O-ring.

This set up causes the bait to stand up with the end of the worm kind of flopping along. The most common hook is wacky hook in sizes 1 to 2/0. The hook is exposed and can sometimes have a weed guard attached.

This bait is pretty snag free. If the weight gets caught in a rock and cannot be popped free it can be retrieved using some pressure. If you lose the weight (and possibly the end of the worm) you can just clean cut the break and add a new weight.

Many fisherman like to use a floating worm with this application as it helps keep the bait standing straight up on the bottom enticing a strike.
