Soft Jerkbaits (Flukes)

A soft jerkbait is soft plastic bait that resembles a long thin fish. Sometimes called flukes, these baits can be very effective at times, especially when the bass are shallow.

They can be fished on either casting or spinning tackle, both weightless or weighted. Most like to fish it on a EWG (extra wide gap) worm hook. It can also be rigged on a weighted hook with a screw lock head.

Soft jerkbaits can be fished slowly with a series of jerks and pauses, letting the bait sink like a dying baitfish. They can also be fished very fast along the surface with a series of jerks while reeling quickly. This method is extremely effective with schooling bass chasing baitfish on the surface.
