Umbrella Rigs

Umbrella Rigs

We positioned our page on Umbrella Rigs under the spinner bait heading for convenience as they are more like a spinner bait than other bass lures.

An Umbrella Rig, sometimes called an A Rig or Alabama Rig, consists of wires, blades, hooks, and dummy baits to create the look of a school of bait swimming through the water. There are times when this rig is very effective because it gets the fish's attention when they are lethargic to bite.

There are some negatives however. One is that the rig is usually quite heavy depending on how many jig head you have on it. A five lure set up with only 1/8 oz jigs and small swim baits can weigh in at well over a full once or more. The heavy weight in addition to the wind resistance of this big rig can make casting difficult especially if you do not have a heavy enough rod.

Check out the videos below to see how to rig it and fish it.
