Plastic Worms

Plastic Worms

Plastic worms have been around for over a half century. As a kid I remember my Dad fishing with pre-rigged plastic worms. These early plastic baits had line going through the worm with several hooks attached. Some even came with weights and some with small spinners.

In the late sixties and seventies the plastic worm as we know it today came into it's own. A method of rigging knows and a Texas rig was designed where the hook as embedded into the worm to make it weedless. The rig employs a slip sinker on the line above the hook.

Plastic worms just plain catch bass. They can be fished with very light weights or even a spit shot attached to the line six to twelve inches above the hook. They can be fished with heavy tungsten slip sinkers or even with no weight at all in shallow water. They can also be on the business end of a Carolina rig or fished 'Wacky" style with the hook set in the middle of the worm.
